Vistra Basketball Leagues - Christmas Round-Up

Vistra Basketball Leagues - Christmas Round-Up

The new season got underway in November and there have been few surprises in the opening round of games. Here are the highlights….

In Div 2, MUG have started brightly with a new look team including former Island player Lee Ogier. Coached by GBA livewire, Paul Van Beek, their mix of finesse from the likes of Ogier, George Thomas and newcomer Girts Indriksons combined with the inside muscle of Andy “Heaven” Maiden make them a decent outfit and they have a 4-0 record heading into the Xmas break.

LMS Used are also unbeaten as they put their ageing bodies on the line to secure wins against perennial powerhouses and title contenders Giants and Geomarine who sit 2nd and 4th in the table. Skillz are yet to record their first win, as are Giants 2, however Mavericks picked up their first W at the expense of Giants 2.

The Women’s League has started well for Sigma as they look to retain their title and they sit unbeaten in second place after wins against 2MI Comets, Nerine and LMS. Storm leads the pack by virtue of playing 5 games with 2MI and Rothschild Tigers in 3rd and 4th place respectively. Nerine lie 5th but will be boosted by some excellent performances under Robin Smith’s tutorship.

In the D League, the Women’s Development Team are still looking for their first win after a thrilling overtime defeat to Diverse who top the table with a 3-1 record. MUG Hurricanes are the only unbeaten side with 2 wins from 2 in second place with Fire in third (1-3). There are sure to be some close games in the New Year with all teams capable of beating each other on any given day.

Division 1 has started slowly but Le Mont Saint remains unbeaten winning both of their games. Skipton overcame Mayside in their first outing but were well beaten in the second game against reigning champs LMS. Heritage have played just the one game beating Mayside who sit bottom with 0-3 record but there are definitely signs of improvement. LMS face Heritage early in the New Year in a crunch game.

Away from league action, the Inter Insular has been confirmed for the 29th April, taking place at Beau-Sejour. The schedule is as follows:

10am – U17

12pm – U21

2pm – Women

4pm – Men
